Pinnacle Weightlifting Classic

For USA Weightlifting athletes, there’s a constant stress put on their bodies. The intense demand on the muscles and joints as a weightlifter grasps the bar, plants their feet into the ground and lifts the weight (often heavier than themselves) high over their head, poses a high risk for injury.

With these considerations in mind, Champion Health’s two chiropractors worked hard to keep some of the most talented athletes in their field in perfect performance shape over the weekend of February 6th, 2016 during the Pinnacle Weightlifting Classic. Jackie Berube, owner of Pinnacle Weightlifting, six time national weightlifting champion, current American record holder in the clean and jerk and total weight, invited Dr. Brittany Haupt and Dr. Gary Wood from Champion Health into her gym for the meet. Jackie recognized the benefit these doctors could offer the athletes of all levels; from the youth to the women and men’s divisions and even the crowd spectators, Dr. Haupt and Dr. Wood delivered care to help everyone achieve optimal movement and health.

Champion Health is located in Colorado Springs and the practitioners specialize in Active Release Techniques or “ART”. This specialized treatment is a patented, state of the art soft tissue system/movement based massage technique that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves. A few common ailments this technique is an application for include: headaches, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, shin splints, shoulder pain, sciatica, plantar fasciitis, knee problems, and tennis elbow. Patients with these and similar conditions have found resolution quickly and permanently with ART. These conditions all have one important thing in common: they are often a result of overused muscles as we see in competitive weightlifting.  ART combined with chiropractic adjustments, enabled the athletes to perform their best during the USA Weightlifting meet at Pinnacle Weightlifting & Sports Performance.

Dr. Haupt also has one of only a handful of special Kinetisense® technology machines.  It captures real-time statistics with range of motion and this state-of-the-art equipment helped Dr. Haupt see difference, specifically to the 100th degree, in the athletes’ movement.  Kinetisense captures range of motion for individual joints, posture position, as well as functional movement measurements.  For example, capturing a weightlifters motion while actually performing a clean, to see the discrepancies in their movement patterns. When you get the body out of its own way, it is amazing how one can perform at the highest capable level.

Champion Health’s mission, both at this event and in the office is to offer the best chiropractic care, exercise, and wellness advice to optimize performance.

Do You Know or Do You Believe?

By Gary R. Wood, D.C., C.C.S.P.

"1 know what many, perhaps most of you believe. My presentation today is designed to expand what you know. What you believe is personal opinion, which may not conform to or be supported by the research Belief may rise to the level of prejudice. What you know is information which is consistent with and supported by reputable research"

These were my opening remarks as an invited presenter to the Colorado Springs Claims Adjusters Association 20 I0 Annual Seminar. My challenge was to present research demonstrating scientific understanding of motor vehicle crashes vs. belief. To my great surprise "belief" was on exhibit right at the beginning of my presentation. An attendee proclaimed, "Accident victims are only in it for the money". I was a bit taken back by this open declaration of what I can only imagine is a commonly held belief amongst claims adjusters.
